golfDUKE OF LEINSTER LODGE GOLF DAY

A near record field of 33 players lined up for the annual Duke of Leinster Lodge Golf Day held in September at Nudgee Golf Club. Last year there were 40 players and only 23 players the year before.

Participants included – three teams of four from Duke of Leinster Lodge, the Deputy Grand Secretary, Graham Schultz’s team, a team from Dennistoun Lodge, one from Wynnum Lodge, one from Dunellan Lodge, Kianawah Lodge (the previous winners) and another team from Kianawah/Stanley Lodge (former winners). This made a total of 9 teams playing for some very nice trophies.

The competition was a four-person Ambrose event and resulted in four teams scoring within 2 strokes of one another.

The Dennistoun Lodge Team led by Wor.Bro. Mark Paterson won the trophies with a score of 32 (3 under par for the nine holes).

Runners up again were the Duke of Leinster Lodge No.1 Team led by organiser of the event, 84 year old R.W. Bro. Stan Rawlings P.A.G.M. This year 3 Teams tied for second with a score of 34 (1 under par) including the Duke’s No.1 and No. 2 Teams and the D.G.Sec’s team. A Birdie on the last hole after 8 straight pars won the runners up prizes for the Duke’s No. 1 team. Nudgee Golf Club’s South Course was in superb condition and presented plenty of water hazard challenges

The Longest Drive on Hole 6 was won by new M.M. Neil Herdegen by 4 inches ahead of W.Bro. Ross Beardsell, both Duke of Leinster Lodge members.

A wonderful variety of sandwiches and hot food was provided by the organisers of the event and the atmosphere was most friendly and genial in the well-appointed clubhouse surroundings. The Duke’s W.M. R.W.Bro. Peter Wickins sincerely thanked those who supported and organised the Golf Day. A possible shotgun start on a Thursday in May 2014 was voted against by a third of the participants. Everyone is now looking forward to the next Duke of Leinster event on Sunday 18 May 2014 during the Lodge’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations.
